A List of Ways You Can Reduce the Appearance of Wrinkles on the Skin

Most of us think that wrinkles are inevitable, especially as we get older, and rightly so. Wrinkles most often come with age, and whether you’re only 30 years old and are already seeing the first wrinkles on the corners of your eyes or you’re 50 years old and have noticed more wrinkles forming on your forehead or the sides of your mouth, one of your priorities might be to reduce the appearance of wrinkles on your skin, and you’re not alone. There are certain ways to reduce wrinkles or at least prevent wrinkles from forming, and here’s a list of ways which can certainly help you.

  • Stay away from the sun

One of the first rules if you want to avoid wrinkles is to stay away from the sun. Many experts have proven the detrimental effects of constant sun exposure to the skin, and even if you like lying down under those warm rays, it’s best to protect yourself with the proper sunscreen with the right SPF.

  • Avoid smoking

Smoking has long been associated with the formation of wrinkles. If you smoke, the smoke from cigarettes releases an enzyme which can break down the skin’s elastin and collagen, resulting in skin that looks more aged. In a certain study done on twins, it was found that the twin who smoked had skin which looked more wrinkled.

  • Get enough sleep

If you don’t get the necessary rest during the night, this can also have a detrimental effect on your skin. If you don’t sleep enough, your body will produce excess amounts of cortisol, which is a special hormone that can harm or break down your skin’s cells. Alternatively, if you do get enough sleep, your body will be able to produce more human growth hormones, or HGH, which can help enhance your skin’s elasticity, resulting in fewer wrinkles.

Additionally, when you sleep, try not to sleep on your side. It’s better to be on your back because sleeping on your side can lead to ‘sleep lines’ or wrinkles which form on the skin’s surface and don’t fade when you wake up. If you sleep on your side, you are more likely to form wrinkles on your chin and cheeks, whilst if you sleep lying face downwards, you can form deep furrows on your brow.  

  • Eat fish

If you want your skin to look fresher and plumper, another thing you can do is eat more fish, especially salmon. Salmon and other types of fish found in cold waters are not only high in protein, they are also high in Omega-3 fatty acids, which can help nurture your skin and keep it looking fresh, youthful, and plump.
